In 2024, Akaku received the award for Sound Mixing at the 76th Creative Arts Emmy Awards for FX’s hit-show “Shōgun."
Having been Chief Engineer/Audio Director with at Syn for over 20-years, he began his career as an Audio Engineer in Japan and then moved to the UK to study recording techniques.
After returning to Japan, he gained experience at a major recording studio and became a chief engineer at Syn Studio Tokyo in 2001. Since then, he has been involved in music recording across a wide range of media and genres.
In recent years, he has focused on remote ADR, leveraging the world-class skills and talent he honed through 20 years of remote recording at Syn.
Hosting some well-known directors and actors in the studio, he has worked with directors such as Martin Scorsese, Michael Mann, and actor Ken Watanabe, participating in numerous projects.
His notable works include "Letters from Iwo Jima," "Silence," "TOKYO VICE," "Pachinko," and "Sunny." Winning the Emmy Award as a Japanese engineer based in Tokyo is a remarkable achievement, testament to his talent and professionalism.
After a long day in the studio, he enjoys a long walk and a cold beer.
